An alternative to tension and fear
The fear of water is always conditioned reaction or an attitude, which has been learned at some early point in life. In the Aquabalancing relaxation group you learn how to shortcut these reactions and go straight into the pleasure of enjoying to relax and to feel the security of the element. In a sense this method is more than therapy.

It is not necessary to know what has caused the fear. As the person works with her/his voice under the water s/he finds it so pleasant that the tension and the fear lose their control over the situation. The tension and the fear are neither analysed nor repressed, instead another alternative to them is presented.

By exploring the voice within the person’s own limits of how deep into the water s/he immerse, s/he learns to respect her/his own limits. The result is a natural removal of restricting limits; the immersion becomes deeper. The simultaneous sensation of tension, fear and pleasure gives a freedom of choice, which was not there before. This freedom of choice is the key to conscious work under the water. It is now possible to look for even more pleasant experiences instead of constantly fight with tension or fear. It is no use to use willpower to fight tension, fear or any emotion. The tension always wins against willpower.

Sink before you learn to float
It is easier to learn to float if you first get familiar with the sensation of sinking. The first stage in the relaxation group is to get deeper than the surface. After the sinking experience being floated around carried by one or many persons is a pleasant and calming experience comparable to a sensation of being in empty space.

The people in the group learn to know each others in a different way not using words, only physical contact. This creates communication on a deeper feeling level than people are used to. For groups it is a powerful method to create a strong team spirit.
